For immediate release:
Contact: Mary Ball Cappio, President, Scotch Plains Fanwood Scholarship Foundation
The Scotch Plains Fanwood Scholarship Foundation (Foundation) announces the second phase of our Dollars for Students campaign. On Saturday March 24th and Sunday March 25th high school students who have applied to the Foundation for scholarship assistance will knock on doors in their neighborhoods to ask the community for their support in funding the Foundation’s goal of raising $25,000. Students will also collect donations outside area businesses and canisters will be placed at other businesses.
The Foundation has been distributing scholarship assistance to area youth for the past 51 years, awarding $3,071,502 in scholarship aid to 2,997 students. Last year, with the community’s assistance, the Foundation was able to award scholarships totaling $144,500 to 92 students, whose applications were reviewed by our broad-based screening committee. In 2018, 149 students have applied for scholarship assistance.
Mary Ball Cappio, President of the Foundation, states “For over fifty years our community has partnered with the Foundation to financially assist our students, sending them off to college knowing that their community cares and stands with them. We rely on our community to enable us to serve Scotch Plains and Fanwood students, especially college students. We are one of the few local scholarship resources aiding current college students.”
Contributions are fully tax-deductible and the funds raised will be used to aid students in achieving their higher education goals. If a resident is not contacted in person or does not find an envelope left by a student, they may send their donation to the Scotch Plains Fanwood Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 123, Fanwood, New Jersey 07023 or may donate on our website, www.spfscholarshipfoundation.org.
In addition to its fundraising efforts, the Foundation administers scholarships sponsored by 32 local individuals and organizations, as well as administering the capital of 15 established scholarship funds.
